Soul Musings/Day 17: Lit From Within

lit_candles_1_1280x960

Holding the families, children that have died and yes the perpetrators in Peshawar in a space of peace as I light candles this morning on their behalf.

Feeling helpless to remedy terrorism leaves us bereft as we reflect on what we can do to shift the pain and suffering of all concerned and effective actions we can take to heal this wound in our world.

The women in the video link below – Strength Within – have taken a pledge to heal themselves and pass that healing and wholeness on to others who may need it.

It may be that taking action from a place of commitment to wholeness of Being changes the landscape of violence within and is then passed to others through awareness and practice of this self-love.

Everyone has the same need, even if deep inside, to be loved and accepted, happy and healthy. Where is the opening for someone who is lost in the violence of terrorism?

It is not simple.

Yet it starts with you….

Soul Musings/Day 16: Surrender Dorothy!

wizard_of_oz_001

This is one of those days that all I want to do is stay inside (the weather is gorgeous outside), eat popcorn and watch period drama romances on PBS. I am inquiring of my Soul -”What’s up with this?!” – but there is complete and absolute silence.

The ego conversations would have me “bucking up” and “getting on with it” because what do I think I am doing anyway….absolutely nothing! I am not accomplishing a thing and there is so much to prepare for the New Year coming etc etc etc. (imagine Yul Brynner as the King of Siam saying that in the movie The King and I – oh, guess that dates me)

It is in these times that I wish my Soul was a little more vocal to provide some guidance here and there, but guess what it is still, you guessed it, silently resting. So the question is what would Dorothy do in the Wizard of Oz?

She finally did have to surrender to the Wicked Witch, but look what she learned along the way, with the outcome of an expanded consciousness to boot. Surrendering to what the space is asking of you may just put some ruby slippers on your feet!

Soul Musings/Day 10: Devotion

10464326_10205303706530103_7260088549354651146_n

Who would have thought that going to have my oil changed this morning would have dropped me into a space of reflection on devotion. Driving the streets of Austin to get there I spoke aloud the dedication that I say every morning which is: I am devoted to Being of absolute highest service to Source (God/Creator/Divine….)

All of a sudden it struck me that not only service to others, the planet…..and my car – but to my body, which is having a few challenges at the moment. It is this extraordinary flesh and blood container that houses the Soul which takes action on behalf of this dedication.

Many of the worlds religions, philosophies and schools of thought take us away from our bodies and ascend us into our heads or up and out. But wait I cry my leg roots are in the soil, my heart floats on the meandering river and my womb rests within a tree.

Of highest spiritual importance and devotion is this earthly substance that makes us human – crying for exquisite, gentle and mindful attention. Without we simply would not be here to serve….

She Let Go

letting_go

SHE LET GO ~By Rev. Safire Rose~ “She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go. She let go of the fear. She let go of the judgments. She let go of the committee of indecision within her. She let go of all the right reasons. Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she let go. She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a book on how to let go. She didn’t search the scriptures. She just let go. She let go of all the memories that held her back. She let go of all the anxiety that kept her from moving forward. She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right. She didn’t promise to let go. She didn’t journal about it. She didn’t write the projected date in her Day Timer. She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper. She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope. She just let go. She didn’t analyze whether she should let go. She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter. She didn’t utter one word. She just let go. No one was around when it happened. There was no applause or congratulations. No one thanked her or praised her. No one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go. There was no effort. There was no struggle. It wasn’t good. It wasn’t bad. It was what it was and it is just that. In the space of letting go, she let it be. A small smile came over her face. A light breeze blew through her. And the sun and the moon shone for evermore.”

th-1

How often in our lives do we strive for the answer or struggle to push onward when everything in us wants to surrender? Surrender meaning not “giving up”, but instead resting in the place of strength and courage that it takes simply to let go and find out what is underneath all of the striving, angst, control and fear.

The quote above reminds me of how awareness can expand and possibilities arise once the walls come down and the striving and struggle stops.  Once the ego stops fueling the mind and the quest for answers becomes something that is less for security and more for being willing to rest in and act from the being of who we are.  Trusting that being…

I remember a very powerful dream that I had quite some years ago during a time that I was teetering on the edge of simply letting go or hacking my way through the challenges that presented and proving to myself that “I could do it”. In this dream I was walking with many others along a trail out in nature and we were all traveling towards a “university of higher learning and knowing”.

I noticed that some had come with equipment – ropes, backpacks and such – and was curious about why.  As we drew closer to being able to see the “University” in the distance we came to an abrupt halt where the path apparently 139710067ended and a cliff with a very steep drop was right before us.  I watched as others put on climbing gear and started repelling down the dangerous slope.  A few fell, others became injured and many made it down to continue on their journey.

As I stood at the cliff side filled with fear and indecision about whether I wanted to go on or not and if so how I would go about it,  my thoughts hit a point of stillness, a full breath arose, and I was guided to look to my left.  There in full view was a continuation of the path which meandered through the forest out into open valley and right to the doors of the “University”.

Sometimes we are challenged to strengthen the knowing of who we are by moving through obstacles and barriers in our lives.  When these challenges become a means to “prove ourselves”, versus inhabit ourselves more fully, then there is a decision to make.  In this dream I made the decision to take the path to the left.

Not out of fear of the challenges on the cliff side or having to prove that I could do it, but out of a place of letting go into my breath, into the moment and being curious enough to wait and see what would unfold.  There is no right or wrong decision to have made in this dream….and perhaps you will find even deeper meaning for yourself….yet it was in simply letting go and becoming curious that it became clear what my choice was to be.

….and the sun and the moon shone forever more.

The Rescue Syndrome

rapunzel06

OK, I know many of us got sucked into the fairy tales that we were told as young girls and boys.  Some of them had good things to teach us….and others lead to belief systems into adulthood that caught us in patterns which were not necessarily the healthiest for our whole being.  Many of these tales had the feminine as helpless and/or in a precarious situation so that masculine needed to save her (read rescue here)….and invariably he became captivated by her beauty (perhaps the beginning of a need for make up and designer clothing?)

A few weeks back I was at a gathering of artists (writers, painters, singers, photographers…..) and we were asked to think of a pattern that we would like to let go of and then capture the image/words on paper with pen/colored marker/crayon/paint so that we could share it with the others.  This was just the beginning of the ritual.

Immediately I saw a scene similar to the one above (you will of course remember “Rupunzel, Rupunzel let down your hair”) however, instead of the masculine presence climbing up my hair to rescue me from the tower that had no way out I saw him riding the white horse across the plains as I screamed “Help! Help! (kind of like Scarlet O’Hara with Rhett Butler or the damsel in distress tied to the railroad tracks).

knight_on_white_horse

No, my horse did not look like this…..

Well, my first thought was “I can’t draw!”, but decided right then and there that I would not ask for a way out of this exercise, but instead picked up colored felt tipped pens and started in on my masterpiece.  Now if you put a group of drawings by a kindergarten class up on the wall let’s just say mine would fit right in.  BUT, I actually had fun doing it and laughed all the way through my creation.  (you should have seen the horse!!)

Believe it or not the other members of the group did get what I had drawn when I shared and before the end of the evening was over with we had all gone outside, stood around a fire and tossed our out lived and no longer needed patterns into the flames.

It was very curious to me that this is the pattern that showed up as I pride myself on being such an “independent women”, but when I really got down to it I realized that this pattern has lasted a very long time.  It actually has many levels to it including taking the role of the rescuer as well.  (switch the picture above in your mind and place a beautiful woman with her heart in her hand (no sword baby!) taking off to rescue everyone she can possibly “save”,  but leaving her own needs somewhere behind on the road she is traveling.)

To keep this simple though let’s talk about the one being rescued.

EmpowermentAs I see it there is a “light” and “dark” side to the “rescue syndrome”.  The light is when we graciously accept help when needed and then use it as a springboard for making distinctions and opening to possibility.  Granted there are times in life when we need someone to be there for us and it is an act of self love to allow that person/s to help us.  Just like being able to give and receive love with equal ease.

Now for the dark side of this pattern.  For me I saw it manifest a great deal in the financial realm oftentimes cleverly disguised in credit card use, asking for (or accepting from self identified “rescuer’s”) personal loans, and oh yes taking jobs that did not honor who I was in my fullest expression or promoting other people’s businesses/visions  – all at the expense of trusting my own.

In younger years the rescue came in the need to be loved, desired, accepted and to belong and often came in the form of relationship.   In more mature years that is still present under the surface,  but it goes much deeper – honoring the potential of my own being in fullest expression, creativity and soul purpose.  Trusting that I have all that it takes to be successful in whatever endeavor I take on whether it be a business, artistic expression, relationship or spiritual quest.

This means a weaving of the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine – versus the Doubtful and Disempowered e5d8a53b6ca0bfc051753f2a67c7425fFeminine with the Static Masculine.  This tapestry happens inside of us and then is reflected in the outside circumstances and relationships of our lives.

No longer able to walk away from ourselves we instead turn back to face ourselves and take a really close look at the magnificent being that we are.

It may take time to integrate all of the parts, and there may be times when we are about to fall into the “rescue syndrome” once again….but I am willing to bet that once you have seen who you are and the potential that you have there will be no turning back!

Relationships and Money

I have never done this before, but because I feel it is vitally important that women are empowered in all aspects of their being I am posting here on WildlyFreeWoman the same blog post that I just published on Natural Wealth Journal.

It is women in partnership with conscious men that are at the heart of the evolutionary global shift we are currently in the midst of.  Let’s clear the way for our clarity of purpose and whole hearted expression to shine forth!

**********************************************************************************************

two-hearts-of-money2Nogie King in The Currency of Connection states beautifully:

“I believe that we sit at the edge of an evolutionary impulse that can move human kind into a radical and collective realignment with wholeness, purpose and grace.  Life has always been an extraordinary  process for creative potential.  What is different now is our growing ability to perceive and then actualize engagement that is our natural birthright.”

With curiosity I invite you to enter the world of money as a vibrant, loving relationship just waiting to connect us to not only our own potential, but also to the creative genius of just about everything on this planet of ours.  If you are like me, you most probably have had, or are still having, a rocky relationship with money. Not your idea of the ideal loving, respectful, and trusting relationship that we all yearn for I bet!

What has helped me tremendously over the past few weeks after quitting a job that I allowed to rob me of creative juice and flow, is to remember that money in and of itself first came into being with the purpose of fostering and celebrating human relationships.  It has now become something else for many people – something that adds stress  to daily life – perhaps unnecessary stress at that.

Looking at money through the lens of relationship can be a fascinating journey and can provide insights that just may surprise you!  Relationship with yourself, with others, with our planet, and with money itself most probably deeply embedded in scarcity and lack in some form or another.

I am reminded of the days growing up that we used to play Monopoly.  Loved handling all that play money and buying the primemonopoly-money properties while hoping that one of the other players would land on my high density housing prime space and have to hand over more money for rent!

We needed to be in relationship in that game.  Face to face, throwing the dice to see what would happen next in our relationship with each other and our money.  Out of necessity it would often go on for hours as money  changed hands back and forth.

Life lessons were tucked in there as well like landing in jail and hoping for a “Get Out of Jail Free” card to release you back into the game and back into relationship with the other players.

Well have you ever thought that we put ourselves in jail and restrict the easy flow of money and vibrant alive relationship in our lives because of deeply engrained patterns that were put down early in our tender lives for what we thought was survival?

Here is a part of my story to make this more personal and to highlight the fact that how we use money is an opportunity for our own spiritual awakening and an expression of our fundamental interconnectedness.

counterfeit-money-funnyI was either in a state of worry and fear around where the next dollar was coming from, or when I did man-chasing-money2have money it rather slipped away from me. I was always trying to find ways to get more back into my bank account.  This went on for many years even through times when I had plenty of money to support myself and my growing children.

At the same time I was creating relationships with men in much the same way.  Two marriages, another long term partner, and quite a number of other relationships later I finally found myself taking a look at both my relationship with money and with men.  Bet you won’t be surprised that there were some underlying beliefs that were interwoven in both relationships.

When my mother died suddenly at the early age of 39 when I was only 14 years old I of course felt abandoned by someone that I really needed at that time in my life.  The connection had been broken and I took it on as something that I must have done.  My underlying belief at this time was that I must not be worthy which was unconsciously supported by my father who went into a deep depression leaving me to take on the responsibility of my younger brother and the household.  In a way he had abandoned me by not honoring that I had needs too.

What did I do?  I created a belief system and pattern that lasted until just recently.  Work hard (read struggle here) to take care of others to make certain you are appreciated and loved, i.e worthy; push down your own needs, desires and passion (stay hidden); create relationships with people and money where “rescue” is needed (so that I could prove I was loved); and not only attract unavailable men, but leave relationships first before they can leave you.

Can you draw a parallel between these patterns and my relationship with money?  Essentially not feeling worthy in my own essential self (money slipping through my hands and creating “rescue” scenarios), taking on others desires and passions as my own (struggling to bring money in through others businesses/visions that were not in alignment with my whole hearted creative expression ), and setting up the abandonment before I can be abandoned (I am not worthy).

I think you get the picture here.  We are in a very powerful time on our planet right now where each one of us has the opportunity to repattern into “wholeness, purpose and grace” in a way that honors our own highest potential as well as that of every other life form on this planet.  If we don’t do this our species has the potential to disappear!

connection20This time is about creatively connecting and collaborating within the deep interconnection that sustains all of us – every single life form on this planet.  It is called Unity – the yoga of life.  In order to open to this way of being each one of us must take the inner journey of clearing anything in the way of truly being ourselves in the world.

Since money is a large part of our life, and always will be present in some way, why not create a trusting, flowing, sufficient, honest and loving relationship with it.  It really does want to love you back and is the currency of connection!!

If Not Now, When?

603843_661859487163709_1263713306_n

For a long time now the title of this post had a certain meaning to me.  Don’t hesitate.  Seize the moment.  Take action on what you have been secretly yearning for so long now.  Life is very short and if not lived in the moment it seems even shorter.  What do I really want to do with the time left to me?

All of this still holds true,  but recently I have discovered that is just the surface of what happens when you pose this question to yourself and action is taken.  Perhaps this question arises from a place deep inside when a pattern that has run your life is asking to be dissolved.  Perhaps it is time to free yourself.

Imagine a young girl of 14 who has just lost her mother very suddenly.  Her father is devastated by her death and goes into a place of depression leaving this young girl to take care of her brother who is 4 years younger, the household, and continue to do the dance of Junior High School, all without any grief counseling or emotional support.  Consider what pattern this must have created.

Each of us has a story, a set of life circumstances that laid down a pattern(s) from which we have lived our lives in order to survive, belong and feel loved and seen.  Many of us have deeply buried the sense of wholeness of who we are, and instead have lived life through the filter of this pattern.  Then we are presented with “If not now, when?

In my case, and yes I was that young girl of 14, I learned to make others needs a priority making certain everyone was taken care of before my own needs so that I might feel  love, appreciation, importance, and a sense of safety in my world.  Over and over I played the part of selfless martyr to my patterns demand – until I woke up.

tumblr_lzgrgwYrO01qa8xm1o1_500Life usually hands us circumstances in which we can pick apart our patterns a bit at a time.  Then perhaps comes a more expansive awakening when all the threads that have held it together can no longer stay entangled.  An awakening where we cannot blame outside circumstances or others for the traumatic or toxic places/relationships we have placed ourselves in, or give excuses for not being all that we were meant to be – but instead take responsibility for freeing ourselves from the patterns that have run our lives.

It is not comfortable to be so honest with yourself and  bring the pattern out of the dark closet so that it can be seen – but it is indeed our job to simply do the work sacredly and silently into our own new awareness.  Our life then has the potential to change and open to allow a connection to the wholeness of who we are….and those with “eyes to see and ears to hear” will respond.

No dragging kicking and screaming necessary…..

You Are More Beautiful Than You Think

How does the title of this blog post make you feel?  What are the feelings that arise when you consider your own beauty?

As women we are so often self critical about many things in our appearance.  If it isn’t the media or our culture that is demanding we look a certain way in order to be loved, get the job, get the man, or even get the attention….it is our own inability to accept the features and bodies that we have been given.

Beauty is considered in so many different ways by people all over the world.  But isn’t real beauty that which shines through the features? The features that are a pathway to all of the experiences that have made up this one precious life!  The soul of who we are!380354_10150709043892185_280837062184_8265230_1562739305_n

It is the deepest parts of our being that shine forth if we but allow the open and whole expression of who we really are.  Accepting the natural beauty that resides within and reflects on the outside – even the wrinkles, lines and flaws – encourages us as women to express fully without holding back anything!

Can we really be open to how others see us and realize that we are much more beautiful than we think?  Watch this short video and reflect.  Perhaps it will lead you to come out of hiding…

Celebrating Natural Beauty

This last Friday I was privileged to watch “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”.   There are many reasons why I found this film delightful, but one of them was that these older actors and actresses were not changed to look younger than their years.  Instead there were lines on faces and bodies that showed age and a life lived.  Each person was a character study in where life had taken them up until the moment that they all found themselves together at the Magnolia Hotel….and by the end of the movie each person had come full circle into acceptance of who they were whether it was by death or by taking a good hard in the face look at life and what they wanted now.

The video below shows Cheryl -Ann Webster and what she is doing to open women and men’s minds to the acceptance of themselves just as they are.  Her Beautiful Women project focuses on what is natural and beautiful in this world versus a socially created image which is unattainable for most people.  She has found that 80% of women, when asked, would change several things about their bodies and appearance if they could and 50% of men.  Are you one of those 80%.  I know that I have been. Cheryl-Ann reminds us that body image is NOT black and white.

Aging, if done gracefully, brings us the wisdom to accept the changes that are inevitable.  It is almost a relief not to feel compelled to mold ourselves into a socially acceptable rendition of what society feels we should look and be like.  The characters in the Marigold Hotel movie are simply being themselves and at times struggling with the fact that they have aged.  Yet in the end, there is a celebration of the natural beauty and wisdom that has been seasoned over the years, and a deeper self acceptance and knowing.

When is it time to accept our bodies and our own natural beauty?  How about now….
