CAPTURED

tenor-wind-chime5

Gazing out through the window that opens onto the world of Spring becoming. A wind chime moves gently in the warm breeze inviting…..beckoning….all that are inside to come breathe the air vibrating with life.

A small luminescent green creature crawls its way across the top of a fence, pausing in a moment in time to stretch it’s head up into a space of air. In another moment it is gone, out of sight, racing to who knows where.

I cannot write any longer. The ecstatic movement of luscious life pulls me to join in the free serpentine movement that unlocks spine, frees undulating hips, and insists that arms rise up captured by the heart of senses.

Sensual movement of life moving through the Soul of Being.

Where are we as we sit in traffic on the endless roads of man made surfaces, gazing out of a tinted window that brings us an encapsulated framework of sameness. Where are the senses here?

The breath locked within the ribcage prison of our own doing.

Breaking free of the illusional walls that have locked us into a life that is not of our calling. Allowing the emergence of a vibrant breath to capture us within the possibilities that hide….

until we say yes,

to taking one more conscious step towards Home.

Language is fundamental to who we are as biological beings and is the primary vehicle for taking action that produces effective results.   It inherently carries within it our identity in the world and the potential for connection and collaboration.

As an advanced practitioner of Jin Shin Jyutsu I am able to see and work with the connection between the body’s energy system and that of language. Conversations actually live in our bodies. Words hold energy that stimulate our biology in various ways.

Transformative writing opens spaces, triggers possibility and stimulates your reader to take effective action.

This is Language as Energy Medicine.

Soul Musings/Day 31: Reflections on Listening to Soul

Gaye in Bali, Indonesia/Global Healing Conference

Gaye in Bali, Indonesia/Global Healing Conference

Those who don’t feel this Love
pulling them like a river,
those who don’t drink dawn
like a cup of spring water
or take in sunset like supper,
those who don’t want to change,

let them sleep.

This Love is beyond the study of theology,
that old trickery and hypocrisy.
If you want to improve your mind that way,

sleep on.

I’ve given up on my brain.
I’ve torn the cloth to shreds
and thrown it away.

If you’re not completely naked,
wrap your beautiful robe of words
around you,

and sleep.

– Rumi

For those of you that may have been following these Soul Musings for the past 31 days I express my gratitude. In total there have been 93 posts including today’s which is rather unbelievable to me as I was ready to quit it all on Day 5!

True to form there will only be 8 sentences here (though the one following is indeed a very long one!) with the last two being specific to this particular blog. I have experienced many things as I have committed to this practice and among them have been the fickleness of the creative muse; the release in simply writing something and then letting it go; observing the critic that wanted to take main stage but whom I banished to the netherlands (where is that anyway?); the groundedness of a regular writing practice; at times the self-imposed pressure of hitting that “Publish” button every single day on 3 blogs; allowing for the polarity of “good writing” and “bad writing” to vanish from my vocabulary; that there would be “something to write about” every single day, but more, trusting that I would listen to what was coming through and simply act as the translator on behalf of full uncensored expression.

When I was urged from the depths of my Soul – from Source – to commit to this practice I was at first certain of it and then wanted to flee from the implications of it. The months of going without writing anything prior to this practice have now fled into oblivion (would love to know where that is too!) and I am washed clean of any hesitation to simply write from the deepest parts of my being.

This was my favorite blog to post on though I probably shouldn’t divulge that! I will forever be an advocate on behalf of embodiment as an untamed woman, free to fully express safely, creatively and passionately, in this sacred life we have been given.

NAMASTE

Soul Musings/Day 21: Dark Confessions

Winter-Solstice-Stonehenge-01-449x300

I stand before you (please visualize) and confess that I love the dark. Not to diss the light now but have you seen dark capitalized like Light is. I actually have been know to do this too.

If there is no good/bad or right/wrong then light is not better than dark.

This Solstice day of the most darkness fills me with pleasure as I wrap myself in it like a cloak of comfort. As Clark Strand says in his New York Times article (link below)

In times past people took to their beds at nightfall, but not merely to sleep. They touched one another, told stories and, with so much night to work with, woke in the middle of it to a darkness so luxurious it teased visions from the mind and divine visitations that helped to guide their course through life. “

When I was in the final stages of writing Give Us This Day Our Daily Breath I unhooked from all electronic devices and simply allowed the creativity and whispers from the Universe to come through without interference.

What would it be like to cultivate the darkness and find out what is living there…

As She ignites the fire that burns

All attempts to tame her

Following her clear calling

….. as collaborator with the Divine

“Let the beauty you love be what you do. There are a thousand ways to kneel down and kiss the ground.” Rumi

Listening to the voice

That tells you so clearly

You are enough

Love The Journey Now

OK, I am back after a rather long – for me – hiatus from writing.  There are good reasons for this little pause as I was gathering material for creating an entirely new life, as well as juicy experiences to write about….and as you can see by the picture to the left, watching out for snakes in rest stops on the vast landscape of Texas.

Having quit a “job with benefits” on 7/1/11 – hooray! – the car was packed and ready to go forth from Oregon on 7/5/11  traveling through California to visit family and friends on the way to my final destination of Austin, Texas where I am writing from now!

I most probably will be writing about this journey for many months to come as there were, and are, so many experiences that speak to what it is for a woman when she finally says a big YES to herself, leaps on the next train going directly to her particular passions, and slides right into the the wildly free life that has yet to reveal the many, varied, and often mysterious pieces that will go into forming the whole.

Soaking in hot spring pools just as naked as I came into the world – on my birthday; sliding/playing tag/pushing swings/building sand castles/running wildly/laughing until tears streamed down my face with granddaughter Sorenna; touching the belly where my grandson resides; connecting with all 3 adult sons and holding the space to find out who they are becoming; celebrating and rekindling women friendships, some that had not been in person for some 40 years; revisiting San Diego, the place of birth and vast memories; running into the warm Pacific ocean waves with arms outspread and delight coming out in little (OK BIG!) shrieks of pleasure; deeply listening and sharing with brother Ron who over the past 2 years has been living and learning with prostate cancer; eating outrageously healthy and beautiful food wherever I landed; spending an amazing 24 hours at Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico for FREE with a beloved woman friend; driving mile after mile by myself entertained by the terrain of my past, the ground of my future, and a journey from Cairo to South Africa that kept me spell bound as the book on tape unfolded itself.

Still in awe of the many blessings, love and gifts that I experienced on this journey to my new home I sit with re-inventing what my life is to become now at the tender age of 63.  So many of us seem to be doing this now.  What is it that starts taking hold of our attention and won’t let go until we finally surrender and say OK, what is it that I am to be next? …and when this is clear to us it often is quickly followed by  – but how?

Well, you see the journey has already been put in motion once you have seriously listened to this inner voice that has your best interests “at heart”.   The practice of checking out every single “lead” that comes into your life no matter what the mind says has begun.  Ready or not….her your life comes!!

…and then you are lead along a path that looks and feels like nothing that you have ever experienced before, and if it does feel familiar, then your mind has gotten the upper hand.  Coming back to the heart….that intuitive and wise presence within you that has just made itself the Director Of Life As It Is To Be Now…. breath deepens and then there is space for the listening….and the courage for the following.

Now, there will be surprises along the way, and challenges that test your resolve, but just remember that someone or some force that has no name – has your back.  This is a learning for women that I know for me is taking time to settle in.  We are so used to being on the giving end of that partnership that it may take some time to embody the receiving end….and it comes in the form of trust and faith disguised in many different and varied forms.

Traveling journey to get here is complete.  I am here now.  The journey continues.  I am sick with a bronchitis that started on day 7 of my trip, unsure about how money will flow into me, haven’t lived in a big city for 23 years, and don’t have a place of my own to call home.

Yet, I am housed by a most generous and loving friend, am learning the benefits of deep rest, filling my body with healing foods and juices, requesting understanding and supportive friends to be on-call when I fall into the doubt and frantic mind scares that old patterns of thinking produce, exploring an amazing new city,  taking restorative and gentle yoga classes, walking in awe within natural settings with brand new sights, smells and sounds; and joined the local natural food co-op, everywhere striking up conversations with the incredible friendly people in these parts….y’all.

We can practice loving the journey in the moment no matter what it brings and see where it takes us.  What makes it even richer is if we connect with other women – “wild sisters” if you will – along the way (see RESOURCE below!), enriching our passage and enlivening our journeys.

“We are not held back by the love we didn’t receive in the past, but by the love we’re not extending in the present.~ Marianne Williamson

So ask the questions that will stimulate the heart to answer you…and then listen my sisters.  Love the journey now……

Self Inflicted Random Acts of Kindness and Generosity

This being the last post of the year I decided that I would send you to the post that is on BreathingSpaces (click here) with a little extra added on for women.

My experience as a woman is that women are experts at giving and relating…but receiving, or giving to themselves,  often isn’t quite as easy.  Along with the proposed New Year’s Commitment for 2011 I say let’s remember to perform random acts of kindness and generosity for, and directed towards, ourselves…and receive graciously with full openness and surrender.

How about that for a New Years Resolution?! Women Who Thrive, Change The World!

Joyous, Peaceful and Abundant 2011!!

A Mantle For Inner Awareness

“A shawl or mantle – This is an insulating instrument, if not a portable sanctuary: a protective veil between you and the world. Such a cloak, if it is a well-used one, becomes saturated over time with your peace-filled devotion to Creator, Creation and Peace. Such a tapestry is effective during meditation and prayer, when sitting still in your home or nature sanctuary, when strolling, listening to uplifting music, and even sitting at your desk working. “

-Dr C. Forrest McDowell  www.onesanctuary.com

So, it is here that I introduce Kay Moates of On Slender Threads.   Kay, like many of us, went through a radical change and shift in her livelihood, as well as her inner creative awareness of what her next leap in life would be not that long ago.  I have the distinct honor of owning a mantle by Kay and use it daily to create my own sanctuary of inner peace and reflection.   The process that she goes through in order to create one of these mantles is a reflection of the depth of the shift that she made.  Kay was invited to write of the leap that she took from a dance world to one of reflective creation.  Below is her short story of the moments that took her through the passage and into creating On Slender Threads.  Go to her website to learn more!

A Gaggle of Leaps by Kay Moates

Last class taught, performance encored, stage struck, accoutrements neatly pack away . . . well, how about the passions, how about forty years of teaching deeper living through dance and movement . . . how do I fold them up and pack them away? How do I tell those images that dance in my head it’s time to stop, time to be done, over, kaput? “You’re hereby retired!”

No way would the images curtsy. “Fan those passion embers, Kay, fuel the flames!”

Ah, I remembered what I’d taught for years, ‘there’s more than one way to do the same thing’. How many times have I asked dancers to do that? “Well, now you do it, Kay!” So I descended into pondering. Gathering my favorite things into a new expression that kept shifting like a kaleidoscope. First one shape, then another, and another . . . Finally all the parts began to congeal.

What a re-defining this would require of me! Skills that were so different I was a stranger in a foreign land. In most cases I didn’t even know the vocabulary for framing questions. And so, the gaggle began. What, use words, write them down, but I’m a non-verbal specialist . . . leap. I must become competent with my Mac . . . leap, understand the internet and surf . . . leap, leap . . . join established internet sales venues . . . leap, purchase and learn a new camera . . . leap, take photos that give a virtual touch . . . leap, learn photoshop . . . leap, and leap yet again and again. Leaping is a playful game now.

Probably the biggest leap is yet to be landed. How does a contemplative who creates in Silence market Mindfulness Mantles via social media? Here goes. Are you watching?

Inhaling, bending knees, pushing off, air borne, straightening legs, softening joints, opening heart into full fall . . . arms spread wing wide . . .

In Beauty May I Walk – Leaps Are Optional

Look at every path closely and deliberately, then ask ourselves this crucial question: Does this path have a heart? If it does, then the path is good. If it doesn’t, it is of no use.
– Carlos Castaneda

Here is the cast for this post, for without each one this awareness would not have been birthed:

Shakti-Samtosha (Peace-Contentment) yoga practice

Carl, representing Health and Wellness coaching

Jan, who is unraveling the grief around the death of her beloved husband after many years of illness

Ron, who is facing an activation of the cancer that he has been living with for the past year

Adam, who is caught in his own world of mental illness, but does not know it

Lea and her personal story on returning to a state of ease

Unexpected income –  who shall henceforth be named “Wealth

Now that the stage is set, the story can be told.  Have you been told that in order to succeed, or get unstuck you need to leap off of the cliff, precipice or ledge and trust that you will fly?  Well I have, and in fact guided others in this free flight as well.   In fact I have done it many times in my life – leaping, flying, and sometimes falling on my face – with great lessons to be learned.  The question is – are you leaping away or towards yourself?

What if it is true that all the events in our life are personally orchestrated by us in order to come “home” …and without each event, each person, each experience we would not understand why we are here, and certainly wouldn’t be able to make those choices that serve our highest well being, and that of everyone and everything we touch.

This awareness may not help when we are in the midst of unbearable grief, full on fear for our lives, intense worry about financial well being, distorted thinking and a feeling of utter abandonment, or uncertainty about what our next step will be.

Yet, it is here in this rich territory of choice and head-on life that we find that it may not be as dramatic as jumping off of a cliff, but instead, like a powerful dream of mine several years ago.  A realization that as you are standing on the edge trying to think your way down to “safety” or the next leap – a path suddenly appears as you turn your head to look at what is around  you.  A path that is uniquely yours and leads in an easeful  and clear (although sometimes not seeming to) way to your next destination.  All you have to do is listen, feel, and start walking…

So, here is the story.  There is an older woman that has done many things in her life that she feels good about.  She has given birth to and nurtured 3 boys into manhood; spent many, many years in the healing professions bringing people into embodiment through touch, breath, energy, listening, guiding, and love; has created 3 businesses on her own and enjoyed the creative process of each one; spent a total of 21 years in living relationships with men who taught her a great deal; owned houses; taught yoga; traveled to far away places, had adventures,  and learned from shamans and healers; called dolphins to her in the wilds of the ocean; continues to act on her passion for writing; and adores the creative and uninhibited joy of dance and art.

This woman feels she is now at a crossroads – a pivotal point.  Many options and possibilities are open to her.  Does she start another business in health and wellness coaching, join a community of evolutionary visionaries, write her book, or stay where she is which is out-of-alignment with who she knows she is and what she has to bring?

In this only two day journey, the beginning is marked by a yoga practice focused on peace and contentment. A yoga practice that she has put on the shelf for a period of time.  Falling into her body, breath, and surrendering her tight and contracted body she cries.  The waking up has begun.

She receives an e-mail from one of her readers, Jan, that shares the fragile place she finds herself in the aftermath of her husbands death, and the knowing that she did everything she could to help him.  The reader reports that she can hardly find her way to reach out to what she may need at this time.  This honesty touches this woman reminding her that everyone is doing the best they can with what they have – including her, and that sometimes it is not right timing to reach out – that each person’s journey can only be chosen by them.

This is emphasized even more by her brother Rons quest for health and life in his journey with cancer, having to deal with some very difficult treatment choices – and her son Adams mental illness that has him locked within his own mind unable to accept the fact, or even be aware, that he needs loving assistance to come back to life – his life.

Waves of energy hit her and clarity begins to filter through.  There doesn’t have to be a leap, free fall, or soaring as the case may be.  It isn’t fear or uncertainty that make the decision not to pursue the health and wellness coaching with the large training company.  An e-mail is written to Carl, the director of marketing.  She now knows that it is alignment with beauty, peace, essential nature, and ease that has been calling for days now – not the path to growing yet another business, no matter how qualified she is.

On the second day of this awakening a friend Lea (www.ReplenishYourSoul.com) writes of her journey back towards ease in her life, having seen the effects of struggle and pushing patterns in body, mind and relationship over this last year. Just a gentle walk to another location inside that says here – here is where you are to be.  Trust and honor what you know.

Guidance is coming in many forms now as the waking up – speeds up.  A letter arrives in the P.O. box which says in the window – Pay To The Order Of – with her name on it.  Unexpected income.  Flow of Wealth. The message – honor your path and the flow returns.

Not making a choice because it might be “good for her to take yet another leap”  – but acknowledging and honoring the place inside that says TRUST – it will be shown to you.  There are many ways to return to and know your path.  Listen in to your bodies messages.  Just turn your head and start walking.  Leaps are sometimes necessary, but always optional…

Pursue some path, however narrow and crooked, in which you can walk with love and reverence.
– Henry David Thoreau

P.S  The woman is me. Deep gratitude to the cast!

For Those With Ears to Hear, Let Them Hear It

I offer this video as an expression of the creative soul that is in all of us.  I know nothing more at this writing of Angelica, but will certainly explore more of her work.  It is within each of us that we hold amazing gifts to bring clearly, and without holding back, into this world –  especially as women.  Perhaps in my recent reading of The Book of Love by Kathleen McGowan, my perception is colored – but deeply and truthfully so.  Stories, no matter whether they resonate with our present knowing or not, can bring shifts in thinking, shake us up, delight us, or reaffirm our own Truth.   They always have the potential to open our hearts. “For those with ears to hear, let them hear it”.

It is in “coming as we are” in all of our glory, power and wildness that the masculine principles shift, joining us with their gifts.  Watching this video with tears streaming down my face at the beauty, grace, and expansiveness of Angelica’s singing I watched the men behind her.  It is LOVE and our soul’s creative expression that will light the lives of others that may be struggling in this moment.  How could anyone not feel the heart of what she is bringing?  How can anyone not have a smile break across their face?  How can anyone check their watch during this offering, instead of being enraptured with what is right before them in this moment?

What is your part in all of this?

Gaye Abbott
