On personal growth:
We have to confront ourselves. Do we like what we see in the mirror? And, according to our light, according to our understanding, according to our courage, we will have to say yea or nay – and rise!

On the value of each and every action:
I’m convinced of this: Good done anywhere is good done everywhere. For a change, start by speaking to people rather than walking by them like they’re stones that don’t matter. As long as you’re breathing, it’s never too late to do some good.

On aging your own way:
The most important thing I can tell you about aging is this: If you really feel that you want to have an off-the-shoulder blouse and some big beads and thong sandals and a dirndl skirt and a magnolia in your hair, do it. Even if you’re wrinkled.

Soul Musings/Day 24: Conscious Language and Possibility

Our words reveal our inner journey of life.  The more conscious we become of our speaking, the more consciousness itself becomes aware of what we are manifesting moment to moment. Once you wake up to your sovereignty over your thinking and speaking, you set yourself apart from the unconsciousness of culture.  People will notice you speak and act differently and want  to follow you. Language is not only vital for communication and connection, but is pivotal to our ability to live fully congruent within our calling this lifetime, supporting effective action from emerging possibilities.

Many of us have had the experience of attempting to communicate when we are stressed or personally triggered (ego in charge) and everything “goes to hell” very quickly.

This language fortifies the “what about me” conversation and we find ourselves in the dumpster of right/wrong, good/bad while encouraging the “mired in ego” feeling of separateness.

On the other hand when we feel rested, relaxed and at peace within, this foundation of stillness brings thoughts and words that are clear and centered arising from a deeper part of us – our Being.

Some call this latter conversation “language of the heart”. These conversations deepen stillness, are connective and open spaces for possibility to emerge.

As the consciousness of our world shifts enough can’t be said about the vital importance of language and the conversations we engage in.

How our conversations feel in the body is key and will help to distinguish whether they are connective and congruent supporting effective action, or separate with a bottom line of ego enhancement cutting off possibility…..the choice is yours.

A short time ago I had the opportunity to share the story of a wildly wise and fiercely feminine woman.   I facilitated a film afternoon co-sponsored along with Sierra Club and TreeSisters (Clare Dakin, Founder – forming a global network of women with a mission of reforesting the rain forests within 10 years).  The film was Taking Root, a story of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Wangari Mathaai and the Green Belt Movement in Kenya, Africa.  There were many things that struck me about this recent history of Kenya and her resources – and even more powerfully the life story of this woman who was bold and committed enough to step into her purpose with clarity and courage even in the midst of an entire government’s ridicule and violent actions taken against her.

And all she wanted to do was plant trees……while empowering Kenyan women and promoting peace and ecological Wangari Maathaisustainability in her country.

There is no surprise that this dynamic woman came back into my life again for as It turns out I had some unfinished business with her. Seven years ago now when I was in Bali, Indonesia at the Global Healing Conference with Desmond Tutu and others from across the world, Wangari was supposed to have been one of the guests to present.  At the last minute she had to cancel.  I was very saddened by that as I had learned of what she had done in Kenya and was very excited about meeting her.

Wangari then came back into my life recently through TreeSisters as they were recommending the Taking Root film to show and discuss. As I am active with them in a volunteer capacity I committed to purchasing the film and facilitating an after film discussion.

About a month prior to this film showing I was visiting with a friend  and we talked a little about Wangari.  She knew about her and loaned me her memoir Unbowed which I finished reading on 9/25/13.  That night I had vivid dreams in which Wangari was encouraging me to “continue my work by telling this story” and “step up into your power and expression as a woman”.  among other things.

The next morning I became curious about what she had died of (ovarian cancer) and when.  When I saw the date I realized why I had been so strongly connected with her that day/night.  She transitioned on 9/25/2011…

317986_290213681073867_886206564_nI remain committed to telling her and Kenya’s story and the relevance to shifting the scarcity/lack and separateness meta-coding that have contributed so greatly to the global challenges we face today – environmental, social justice,  health and spiritual well being.

Her story and that of the women of Kenya is relevant to inspiring and empowering women to express from their fullest potential and to support each other in doing so. It can start with one simple act.

Wangari and so many other women today exemplify the fierce feminine which I am speaking to here. The earth and nature based feminine that is arising with a voice that cannot be ignored.  The  “wild wisdom” feminine that is finally honoring what we have to bring….and bringing it within collaboration and heart based connectivity shifting what Anodea Judith calls the “static masculine” (The Global Heart Awakens: Humanities Rite of Passage from the Love of Power to the Power of Love)  foundation  upon which so much has been built and co-creating a new myth from awakened hearts into systems based on the power of love and the deep interconnection that sustains all.

Root yourself down dear sisters and explore the stories that you are telling yourself.  Are they true?  If not, then change them, make friends with your saboteur and become very curious about what would provide the solid foundation for a fully expressed fiercely feminine YOU!

Women As A Pathway To The Sacred

This picture along with the words caught my attention.  There has been so much written about the Divine Feminine, Goddess traditions and women’s empowerment.  It is not my purpose here to delve into  these important and very extensive areas as this post would be very, very long!

However, I was taken by the simplicity and power of this picture as well as the words.  Masculine acknowledging feminine awareness which is different from his.  His understanding that women do have “another system of knowledge” that a man may not possess in the same way.  An honoring if you will, and an invitation to bring this understanding and intuitive wisdom to the “counsel table” for all to benefit from.

It is time that this honoring and acknowledgement take place once again.  Our global, national, community and family well being depends on it!  We as women also need to accept the gifts that we posses, and be willing to use them in powerful, insightful,  and compassionate ways

Below you will find a video done by the BBC that takes us on a journey into ancient times.  This video explores a little-known ‘golden age’ for women, when historical characters such as the Empress Theodora in Byzantium, Wu Zetien in China (the Empress who called herself Emperor), the early women of Islam (2 of Mohammed’s wives) and Anglo-Saxon Hilda of Whitby, used the power of ancient traditions and new ideas about religion and philosophy to wield influence in what appeared to be a man’s world.

Women wielding their *power* in deepest human connection with/in the Divine.

We can gain understanding and inspiration from these women who were not willing to back down on using their innate sense of the much larger picture to create positive changes in a mostly male dominated world.   It was a pleasure to be introduced to these women who paved the way to the sacred of their times!

Feminine Values and Leadership

The planet needs women now!  We are needed to step up and into our feminine values that are grounded and relational.  We are needed to let go of our fears and step into the power that being a woman innately gives us.  We bring life into this world and know how powerful it is to nurture that life and see it grow and change.

What greater undertaking than to give life back to this planet in the ways that align with our unique passions and interests.  There are many paths and projects to give our energy to.  Here is just one that I have joined out of a deep love for the trees that give us so much life and pleasure.  TreeSisters is a global network of women working together through feminine values and leadership to reforest the tropics.

Did you know that every 5th breath you take comes from the trees in the Amazon?  How much more life energy can be generated by helping to reforest this vital area rebuilding natures template for a healthy environment.  I invite you to watch this short film from TreeSisters and see if this is something that you want to become a part of.  If not this, then direct that passionate energy to where your heart tells you!

ROAR!!! Shaking The Trees

Some of you might recognize this Tarot card which was given to me as a symbol for this last year of my life.  Everyone will see something different within the image and the symbols.  In fact, everyone will see and feel exactly what they need to at this juncture of their life within the depths of the images.

This card has been on my altar as a guiding light for finding trusting, and surrendering to my  authentic “voice” – amongst the many competing ones all around –  in an emboldened, passionate, sensual and expansive way.

In that vein, I would like to share with you a piece called ROAR!!! by Cinda Stevens Lonsway.  As I read this story energy raced through my body.  It was exactly the words that I needed to read right in this moment to inspire me to courageously continue bringing my voice and connecting with the likes of YOU – the Wildly Free Woman!

Finding-Voice

There was a circle of women sitting together having come to join each other in sharing what it was to walk a sacred, creatively authentic path as a woman in this world.  The small island on which this retreat was located held us within the energy of her natural beauty.  There was a leader of this group who stood before us in her power and with her unique voice.  She vibrated with confidence and a wisdom that was palatable to everyone in the room.

The present assignment was simple, or so it seemed.  Each woman was asked to share what brought her, and whether she had any expectations of the week that we would share together.  I immediately felt the fear of being transparent within this circle of women.  It was a full body charge running from the top of my head all the way to my toes….and it wasn’t particularly comfortable.   I felt like a deer in the headlights as my turn quickly approached.

As each woman shared eloquently (or so I judged) her journey to get here, and what she hoped to uncover for herself, I felt like I was the lone ranger with all of this fear of not being able to speak within the circle.  As long as I was the facilitator or leader of a group I seemed to be quite fine thank you very much, but when put in the position of being a participant where I felt not in control of what would come out of my mouth – well it was pure terror!

Most of my life had been spent in a man’s world, literally!  Motherless since 14 with 4 brothers, a father to take care of me, 2 husbands and another long term partner, 3 sons and many years in the conventional medical world, I wasn’t really certain of how to be in the company of women let alone bring my authentic powerful voice to the forefront.  I had been too busy anticipating the needs of men and everyone else around me to trust what my own voice had to say.

Well here was my chance, in this circle of women bound together out of a desire to mine the depths of our individual and collective hearts, souls, and minds – and dance together with our bodies in uninhibited movement.

It was then my turn in the circle to share, and do you know what I did?  I passed!  Oh, yes a lesson learned a 1,000 times over that when you pass on bringing your voice, no matter what the circumstances, you not only miss out on finding out more about yourself,  but you also hold back your unique thoughts, feelings, and ideas that could empower or break open the woman sitting next to you, the woman across the circle from you, or the woman on the other side of the world!

Yes, I finally did dismantle the fear that was keeping me silent, and shared a couple of days later in my own timing. That seemed to part of my lesson as well these many years ago now.  Honoring when I was ready to bring my voice by loving myself in the moment of absolute terror, and then committing within myself to bring my voice before the week was out.  It was what happened between the terror and the bringing that was truly the heart of the healing for me.  I let go of being perfect and committed to bring the whole of me – no matter what.

The “no matter what” was important for me in this safe circle of women, for so like many women we seem to hold a deep cellular memory of having been somehow “punished” for bringing our voice, our talents, and our opinions to the table of the world at large.  I say, let’s create another cellular memory for the girls that follow behind us and for the women of today and yesterday.

What does happen between finding our voice and bringing it out into the world in all of our relationships and endeavors??

There is a video below that is powerfully short and to the point.  Chills swept my body as I realized that although I have brought my voice out into the community, in relationship, and out into the world I have reached a point in age when there is not as much time to bring that unique voice of mine as there was when I was 20, 30, 40 or even 50.

What is it that will encourage, support, and sometimes give us a little lovin push or shove, as the case may be, to find and bring our voice?  I say – each other!

We need all of us to break any silence we have kept for reasons only we know deep in our hearts…tell your story and impact the world, reclaim your voice when you have lost it, be fearless, listen to your inner voice and act accordingly, let go of being perfect, talk about what is important to you with other women and ask for help when needed, live your life in integrity and on your own terms, let go of trying to be everything to everybody….Be completely, transparently, and powerfully YOU!

What if “impossible” is a wall
YOU build around your dreams?

I love what Tammy says in the quote above!  Seeing “impossible” as something that is self created inside by our minds is very possibly exactly what happens.

There are many women that have lived before us, and are living now, that have either torn the barrier down or never built it in the first place.  Perhaps the wall was built of others expectations?!

Take some time to investigate what you are calling impossible today and imagine that you have indeed built a fence around it.  Is it a dream that burns inside of you, or keeps coming back to divinely nudge you one more time?

Are you willing to take the pieces of the barrier down one by one, or even with fierce passion all at once….to reveal what your heart knew all along – that “impossible” is a construct dressed in fear, void of self love,  and two letters too many.  Take the “im” away and become fearless in taking the first step towards the dream that has called you here.  It is time….

Strength Of A Woman

I came across this video yesterday and wanted to pass it on today to all women as it is a fun way to celebrate all that it is to be a woman, not just a mother!  Catchy tune that I immediately started to sing and dance to!!

So many strengths in being a woman!  If we will daily remember our worth, act out of that embodied space,  and remind each other of our strengths….the world would shift in a moment!
