A Courtesan to Life

Mindful

Every day I see or hear something that more or less kills me with delight,

that leaves me like a needle in the haystack of Light.

It was what I was born for – to look, listen, to lose myself inside this soft world – to instruct myself over and over in joy, and acclamation.

Nor am I talking about the exceptional, the fearful, the dreadful, the very extravagant – but of the ordinary, the common, the very drab, the daily presentations.

Oh, good scholar, I tell myself, how can you help but grow wise with such teachings as these – the untrimmable light of the world, the ocean’s shine, the prayers that are made out of grass?

– Mary Oliver –

In this very moment, unwinding breath through the undulation of an arm, soft round curve of hip and breast, the texture of ground beneath bare feet. Slippery, pulsating, flowing, throbbing – each note of music guides, leads, and then drops back behind, in front, within and to the side of the dancer and the danced – as if the story being told, the breath being breathed, is the universal connection to each other…… to God.

How is it that we as women leave our soft, sensual animal bodies behind on the shelf when we step into our days?

Will we, at the moment of our death, feel the panic that we haven’t given ourselves permission to explore and intimately embody what it feels like to walk as a courtesan to life?

This morning, after six months of being away, I joined the ecstatic dance community to celebrate the freedom and joy of movement unrestrained by any rules, regulations, or techniques.

10388629_10152709841292621_3451855566439017315_nThe simple request is to remove shoes, stepping with untamed presence onto the dance floor – the agreement with ourselves and each other to explore this soft, sensual, alive animal body that we have been given. To find the joy in simply unfolding what presents next, partnered with deep listening and possibility.

How linear our lives, our thoughts, our conversations can be if we forget to breathe and explore into the space of sensual and earthy curves and valleys in belly, pelvis, back and thigh. Opening our eyes, faces, and hearts to each other to be recognized as our soul’s calling.

Claiming a willingness to “get lost” and voice pleasure within day to day tasks – moving in circles and spirals, leaving behind the linear patterns that are almost never what is asking to unfold – and embracing the sacred geometry of life as it really is…….

I help you reveal new possibilities in your creative work

Language is fundamental to who we are as biological beings and is the primary vehicle for taking action that produces effective results.   It inherently carries within it our identity in the world and the potential for connection and collaboration.

As an advanced practitioner of Jin Shin Jyutsu I am able to see and work with the connection between the body’s energy system and that of language. Conversations actually live in our bodies. Words hold energy that stimulate our biology in various ways.

Transformative writing opens spaces, triggers possibility and stimulates your reader to take effective action.

This is Language as Energy Medicine.

Arbitrary Moments of Nearly Painful Happiness

“…..This is my true religion; arbitrary moments of nearly painful happiness for a life I feel privileged to lead.  Think of the way you sometimes see a tiny shaft of sunlight burst through a gap between rocks, the way it then expands to illuminate a much larger space – it’s like that.  And it’s like quilting, a thread surfacing and then disappearing into the fabric of ordinary days.  It’s not always visible but it’s what holds everything together.”  From The Art of Mending,by Elizabeth Berg, page 148

I was taken by these few sentences in the novel I just finished reading.  As the summer stretches out before us it gives us time to consider those “arbitrary moments of nearly painful happiness” where we are touched deeply and often irrevocably changed.  These moments are within everything that we do, even those seemingly endless tasks that we set before us.

Isn’t it these experiences that wake us up……. pausing to take a  breath and simply becoming quiet enough to appreciate the moments of pure art, magic and beauty that pour themselves in and through our lives every single day.

What would you miss if you weren’t here?   Transformational coach Cheryl Richardson lists a few of her things below.

…..”I thought about the little things that bring me joy that I’d miss – the things that often go unnamed as important.  Things like a bird’s nest under construction that captures my attention each morning while I enjoy a cup of tea.  The way my cat Poupon covers his eyes with his paw when he naps, making me smile every time, regardless of how many times I see him do it.  Or, trees billowing in my backyard like soft sheets on a clothesline when a strong breeze blows.  And, of course, the beautiful, nuanced moments that occur when I connect with others. ” Cheryl Richardson

Now is the time to pay attention….sometimes they sneak up on you when you are least expecting it!  Embrace….they are woven into the fabric of your life…
